Take the time to analyze your needs.
You dream of a large house by a lake? Is that really the property that meets your needs? Sometimes you have to know how to tell the difference between the house of our dreams and the one that truly suits us. Before you start your search, take the time to reflect.
Your needs
Each family has its own needs and priorities. How many bedrooms and bathrooms do you need? Is a dining room really necessary? And the garage, will it become another storage space?
Your tastes
Take your tastes into account. If you’re not handy, avoid houses that need major renovations. Have a soft spot for a large plot of land? Remember that you’ll have to maintain it. If you prefer urban life to be closer to services, theaters and trendy restaurants, expect to live in a louder and less green environment. In short, set your priorities!
What is your budget?
Don’t make the mistake of buying a house whose price is beyond your means. To find the property that suits you, adjust your needs to your budget. Once you become a homeowner, your investment will appreciate in value and will allow you, later, to opt for a property closer to your ideal. At the outset, mainly think about setting aside reserves for the costs related to the purchase and unforeseen expenses. Not to mention maintenance, insurance and repairs, whose annual costs typically amount to 2% or 3% of the price of the house.
Your environment
Your environment is also an important factor. Is there a daycare or a school nearby? Will your children be able to use public transportation or will you have to drive them? Also think about the distance from your work.
